Systemic holistic “whole of government” approach is excellent. We are trying to implement this systemic approach at Penn State to implement SDGs in our 23 Campuses. This approach works if sub parts of the system know their own role. So a Question - what role can universities play to support government efforts on Climate Action. There are 3,000 Universities that can be deployed in this whole systems approach.

How do we provide support/funding assistance for coal mining communities in Southern Appalachia, such as towns in Eastern Kentucky, that bear the brunt of transition away from coal and fossil fuels to renewables? Kent Glade

To echo Gina’s comments. https://www.lowcarbonprosperity.org/project/building-back-better/. This report analyzes the potential jobs and community health benefits created by a sample portfolio of investments in Washington State. We find that investing in clean transportation, forest conservation and ecosystem restoration, clean energy, water and energy efficiency, low carbon agriculture, and sustainable industry supports over ten jobs per million dollars invested. By comparison, the state’s ten largest industries support 4.3 jobs per million dollars invested. Additionally, we find that every million dollars invested in these programs accrues $2.4 million in clean air and climate benefits. These findings can help state policymakers design an economic recovery plan in response to the COVID-19 crisis that maximizes both job creation and the long-term health of Washington communities.

We represent a coalition of organizations working on advancing climate change education policy. How can we best work with you to use education as a vital tool in our solutions toolbox to work with all of you to create a more climate ready workforce, integrate equity into our climate education work (from cradle to grey), working with all sectors (formal and nonformal), and working with multiple sectors. We believe that education, which is often left out of the policy discussions, can help advance climate literacy and climate action to create a more equitable and sustainable future. Would love to hear your thoughts. (We're linked to the ACE Framework from NOAA.) Thanks!
